“Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse”, the multiverse spinning animated ‘Spider-Man’ spinoff, opened in North American theaters over the weekend with earnings of over $120.5 million – triple the amount of the debut of the original film Oscar-winner from 2018, “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” (that film opened with $35.4 million, and earned $384.3 million worldwide) .
‘Across the Spider-Verse’ surpassed expectations and earned great reviews, and become the second largest domestic opening of 2023, trailing only “The Super Mario Bros. Movie.” Across the Spider-Verse, directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers and Justin K. Thompson, topped “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” which debuted with $118 million.
In the film, the teenage webslinger from Brooklyn, Miles Morales ( Shameik Moore ), swings into another adventure – this time across multiple worlds. Written and produced by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the film is Part 2 in a trilogy that will conclude with a third chapter to be released next year, dubbed Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.
